Where to Start

Funeral planning can get overwhelming, but you’re not alone. Our staff is here to support you and help you through your grief journey while honoring your loved one. To help you get started, below is some helpful information. But please feel free to contact us with any questions.

Within Hours

When a loved one dies at home or in a place that isn’t a healthcare facility like a hospital or nursing home, contact us and we will guide you through the process of notifying the proper authorities. If your loved one was under hospice homecare, you should contact the homecare providing agency. These are necessary first steps before we can bring your family member into our care.

If your loved one dies in a healthcare facility, nursing home or long term care facility they will notify the proper authorities, including contacting our funeral home.

This part of the process is often the most emotional, and we are here to help and support you. If you’re not sure what to do, call us any time.

Within the First Few Days

You’ll want to notify close friends and relatives, both through personal phone calls as well as your loved one’s death notice. If this process is too painful for you, it’s absolutely okay to ask a trusted family member or friend to help you.

This also is the time to review any of your loved one’s preplanned funeral wishes and meet with a funeral director to begin planning their service. If your loved one did not preplan their funeral, you might want to start thinking about a few of the big choices you will need to make, such as:

  • Burial or cremation
  • If burial, the type of casket
  • If burial, the location of their final resting place in a grave or mausoleum
  • If cremation, the type of urn
  • If cremation, the location of their final resting place through burial or scattering
  • Any religious services you will need, such as clergy or spiritual leaders
  • The types of services you want, such as a viewing, service, graveside memorial, etc.

These questions are just a starting point, and you don't need to know the answers right away. Don’t hesitate to contact us to gain a better understanding of your options. We're here to make this process easier for you.

When We Meet

When you meet with one of our staff members to begin planning the funeral, we'll show you our general price list to give you a basic idea of our service costs. Then, we’ll talk with you about your loved one to get a better understanding of the person and services to honor their life.

Our staff will use this information to help you create a personalized, meaningful service to celebrate your loved one. You can share your funeral preferences and ideas, stories about your loved one, their passions, and any other insights into your loved one’s life.

This process also may include:

  • Preparing and filing the official death certificate
  • Drafting an obituary
  • Scheduling the funeral services and events, including the date, time, and location
  • Selecting a casket, urn, and any other products
  • Choosing pallbearers
  • Arranging transportation

We want to make this process as simple and stress-free as possible, so please bring the following information about your loved one:

  • Date of birth
  • Place of birth
  • Full legal name and home address
  • Social security number
  • Father's name
